Stocks & Bonds
A stock is a purchase of a share of ownership in a company’s net worth and makes the owner a stockholder in that business with a share of the company’s profits and dividends. Bonds are debt securities, a loan by the investor to the issuer. The issuer agrees to pay the loan back by a specified date and to pay interest on the loan amount. Stock investing involves risk including loss of principal.
Bonds are subject to market and interest rate risk if sold prior to maturity. Bond values will decline as interest rates rise and bonds are subject to availability and change in price.
